Madballs annual 1987

For real one of my favourite annuals in my collection- the comics are really fun and it's full of cool illustrations. The page where you write your name at the front proclaims "This ghastly, gruesome, gross and grimly gut-wrenching book belongs to" whoever wrote that was very talented and probably used a thesaurus.

Barbie annual 1987

Barbie annual 1987

Some of the stuff in this annual included... Spandau Ballet fact file, Are You a True Friend quiz, Barbie's fashion secrets (aged badly), Tears For Fears fact file and poster, Barbie's Beauty quiz (includes terrible questions such as "are jacket potatoes fattening?", Thompson Twins poster, a Skipper comic called My Giddy Goat, All About Wham!, U2: A Few Words From Bono ("We're now considered the best rock band in the world" ...Bono as self deprecating as ever), and maybe the best part- a poster of Shakin' Stevens in a coat that looks way too big for him.

DC Comics trading cards 1987

You had to cut these trading cards out yourself as they were on a sheet. On the back of each one there is a small bio of each character. There's some great info including "Mxyzptik is an immensely powerful magical imp" (good for him), "visiting aliens gave Buddy Baker the power to absorb the natural abilities of nearby animals" (good of them), and for Batgirl; "who is she? Where does she come from? Is she secretly close to the caped crusader?"

I think they originally came in a 3 pack of comics, and I'm not sure if they were only available in the US as on the back it says $2.25 value.

She-Ra annual 1987

The annual that started my collection...
I never had any annuals as a kid, although I know many people find them nostalgic as they were a popular stocking filler. The first annual I ever got was this exact one: She-Ra 1987, I found it in a charity shop when I was a teenager. As a kid I loved She-Ra and the book was cheap so I got it. It was to be the first in my collection of many!

Some of the art is a bit dodgy and the lion people are quite amusing. I love a good character page, and especially a Masters of the Universe one. This annual makes me nostalgic because as well as loving the cartoons I remember at school in the early 90s we were all allowed to choose one book each to keep as they were having a clear out. I chose the ladybird book She-Ra and He-Man The Secret of the Sword, a book adaption of the film. I cherished that book and my favourite part was the inside covers where they had character splash pages much like the scan above. So this annual is one of my favourites in my collection :)
